(i) Thermal Decomposition Reaction
When a compound decomposes on heating, it is called thermal decomposition.

Here, calcium carbonate decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide on heating.
(ii) Electrolytic Decomposition Reaction
When a compound decomposes due to the passage of electric current, it is called electrolytic decomposition.

Water decomposes into hydrogen and oxygen gases when electricity is passed through it.
